The Mind, a real experience
The Mind is not just a game. Due to its original gameplay mechanics, The Mind is a unique experience. In The Mind, players must work as a team in order to collectively pass all levels of the game. Yes, but here's the thing: progress will have to be done in silence, without the possibility of exchanging any information.
The Mind, a game based on intentions and patience
The Mind contains cards numbered from 1 to 100. Your goal will be to collectively complete all levels by building up a growing suite.
In a level, each player is dealt a hand of cards equal to the number of cards in the level: one card in level 1, two cards in level 2, and so on. To pass a level, all cards must be played in order. Each player knows their cards, but only their own.
No communication is permitted, whether orally, by sign or otherwise. Participants simply look into each other's eyes. After this moment of silence, after gauging the other players' cards, if a person deems it his turn, he can then play his lowest card.
At this point, there are two solutions:
If no one holds a lower card, that's great, the game continues!
Otherwise, all players discard the cards lower than the one played, and the player who made a mistake loses a life.
The Mind, a game with shuriken
At the start of the game, players all have a number of lives equal to the number of participants. A player is eliminated when they run out of health. Each player also has a shuriken, which is a kind of wildcard. To use it, all players must agree on its use at the same time. At this point, each player gets rid of their lowest card face up, giving everyone valuable information about the cards still in play. Upon completing the levels, players are rewarded with a shuriken or an extra life.
If you manage to complete all the levels, the game is won!
The Mind, a variant to complicate the game
And if The Mind gets too simple, there's a twist to spice up the game. In this extreme mode, players play all the cards on the face down pile and only look at the played cards at the end of a level.
The Mind, an award-winning game at Cannes
The game was awarded the 2019 As d'Or for Game of the Year, an award that rewards family games that are accessible to the general public and original in their mechanics and in their edition.
