In Takenoko, you play as a Japanese gardener who has the daunting task of landscaping the Imperial Gardens.

You are in medieval times and the Emperor of Japan has just received a large panda from China.

The fate of the animal, a symbol of peace between these two great empires, is very important.

You have to take care of it by providing it with all the comfort it needs.

As a gardener in the service of the Emperor, your delicate mission is to ensure the well-being of the animal by setting up a bamboo grove for it.

But be careful, the panda is gluttonous and your work will be hard!

To fully fulfill your mission and garner the emperor's favor, you'll need to cultivate plots of land, irrigate them, and grow bamboo.

Each player will have the choice between these different actions while respecting the Emperor's wishes, symbolized by the objective cards.

You'll also have to keep an eye out for the charming panda, tenant of the Imperial Gardens, who only thinks about eating.

In Takenoko, time matters.

The weather will even play a major role in your progress.

She will be your best ally and will support you in your mission.

Materialized by a die, the effects of the weather (sun, rain, wind, lightning and cloud) are multiple and varied but will always give you a little boost.
