El Grande

Version french

Spain in the fifteenth century: The conflict between Christian and Muslim rulers for supremacy in the country has been raging for nearly 700 years.

Spain is divided into several kingdoms, counties, provinces, and an emirate.

Catholics and Moors, but also Basques, Galicians and Catalans fought for the domination of each province.

The nobility of the country played a crucial role in sending their valiant knights, the Caballeros, to conquer new regions.

With each castle they capture and defend, their influence grows.

In the game El Grande, you will try to strategically place your Caballeros to become masters of the different regions of Spain.

Every three rounds, a state of forces is carried out and if you hold the majority in a region, i.e. you have the highest number of Caballeros in that region, you will score the most points in the evaluations.

In each of the nine rounds, you select one of your 13 Power cards to determine the order of the turn as well as the number of caballeros you can move from the provinces (general supply) to your court (personal supply).

Then each turn consists of selecting one of five action cards that allow for variations of the rules and additional scoring opportunities, in addition to determining how many caballeros must move from your land to one or more regions of the board (or to the castle - a secret turn).

Normally, you can only place your caballeros in regions adjacent to the one containing the king's pawn.

The only absolute rule in El Grande is that nothing can enter or leave the king's area.

One of the five action cards always available each turn allows you to move the king to a new region.

The other four action cards vary from round to turn.

The player who has accumulated the most points at the end of the game is declared the winner.

El Grande is a classic majority placement game that was first published in 1996.

In this beautifully illustrated new edition, you'll find two new mini-expansions and additional Action cards.
