The game takes place over a variable number of turns until players collectively claim a certain number of achievements at the end of the game.

The winner is the faction that has the most victory points, obtained by researching technologies, improving their economy, controlling and colonizing systems, and completing various objectives and events throughout the game.

During a turn, a player moves their action token to an empty action space and then performs that action.

It then conducts its production phase, either by producing ore, increasing its population, or exchanging one of these resources for another.

Finally, they can claim up to a goal, if possible.

As players take action, they look for new technologies that come in four levels.

Each technology is of one of four types (scientific, economic, military, commercial), and higher-level technologies must correspond to one of the types of technologies that lead to it.

Thus, players create their own tech tree in each game, using these actions to increase their military strength, to jump to different habitable exoplanetary systems, to colonize these systems, to increase their resource production, to develop android technology that allows for growth without population, and more.
