The United States of America is history. They were destroyed when the world's nuclear warheads were launched. The apocalypse that followed put an end to the Great War, but also to civilization, which was replaced by the Wasteland. This irradiated landscape is pockmarked with ruined cities, declining societies, and pockets of desperate survivors, grappling with a variety of mutant creatures, horrific beasts, and immortal ghouls. Everything that was not killed on the spot was irradiated and most of the country's fauna and flora were annihilated.

The survivors struggle to salvage what little they can and save what they can't rebuild. Civilization is beginning to take root again, and some areas of the country have reached a level of stability that some would call comfortable, at least for the rich and powerful.
