Chase the Beast, and it comes back at a gallop!
Welcome to the Northern Expanse, a place where nature is still unexplored, mystical and dangerous.
When humans arrived, they thought they had found an untouched paradise, filled with bountiful forests, lakes teeming with fish, and cold, fresh water flowing from the mountains. But as their colonies expanded and the surrounding forests dwindled, nature itself responded. Large creatures known as Beasts appeared, and with their fangs, claws, and mystical powers, they posed an incredible threat to humans. In order to protect the colonies, humans have recruited specialized hunters, tasked with tracking down and killing the Beasts before too many of their fellow creatures perish.
Hidden Movement
Beast uses a deck of direction cards to move through forests, swamps, and caverns, using cunning and deception to hide his trail from hunters. However, whenever a hunter moves to a location where the Beast has already passed, a trail appears. It is only when a hunter searches a location or the Beast itself attacks an unsuspecting target that the Beast's true position is revealed. In addition, each hunter only has one chance to search each round, which makes the decision tense and difficult. Hunters rarely know if the trail they are following contains the Beast's actual location, or if the trail has already cooled down.
Asymmetric drafting
Every action you take in this game is done by playing a card from your hand (up to a maximum of two cards per turn). This means that if a player wants to search, attack, or move, they must have a card in their hand that allows them to do so. Before each round, the Hunters and the Beast participate in a draft for the most important cards. All action cards can be used by both the Beast and hunters.
Teamwork above all
To win this game, you must either cooperate at every step if you are a hunter or skillfully outsmart your opponents if you are the Beast. Alone, hunters are never stronger than the Beast. Only when hunters communicate, strategize, and combine their actions can they take down the Beast before it's too late.
