We find the superb illustrations of Jérémie Fleury and the artistic direction of Maxime Erceau who has thought of a playful object that will be difficult to resist.
On the mechanical side, its author Kevin Gauvin has created a competitive memory game to which he has added the little personal touch that makes it so charming.
In Kyoto No Koneko: Hide and Seek Kittens, players will face a square of 4x4 cards of which they only see pairs of eyes that are supposed to tell them the number of felines they will discover if they decide to turn them over.
In turn, a player reveals a Mission (cards in the shape of cat's heads) that tells them the exact number of kittens they will have to reveal.
The cards in the deck represent pairs of eyes in the night on their front (between 1 and 3 pairs of eyes) and cute kittens on their back.
The trick?
The number of pairs of eyes on the front does not necessarily correspond to the same number of kittens on the back.
Some kittens close their eyes or two kittens blink and stand side by side, forming a single pair of eyes!
This will trap the players around the table who will not always be able to trust what they see on the front of the cards and there will be many surprises when it comes to revealing the card that has been chosen!
You will have to call on your memory to carry out your mission by remembering, for example, that behind this single pair of eyes are actually four mischievous kittens!
